Remove yourself from the September stress and take back control

5 Tips to Ease Your Autumn Stress

Autumn stress

After a summer of lounging by the pool, September had a tendency to hit you like a ton of bricks.

Kids back in school. Work picks up. Weather gets cooler. It’s back to business. Full speed.

Before you know it, it’s November and you’re stressed, frazzled, catching colds and worn out.

Wouldn’t if be nice if that didn’t happen?
You CAN keep yourself from crashing in November. By taking care of yourself right now. Remove yourself from the September stress and take back control.

Here are 5 tips to take back the reins and ease your Autumn stress:

1. Prioritize whole foods.

Physical stress on your body is much easier to control than mental and emotional stress. Focusing on nourishing yourself with nutrient dense whole foods is one of the best ways to ensure that you’re getting all of the vitamins and minerals that you need. Eating lots of vegetables, high quality protein and healthy fats can reduced inflammation (which is a stress on your immune system) and give you more energy to focus on easing your mental and emotional stress.

2. Practice intuitive exercise.

Exercise is a form of physical stress. So when you’ve had a hard day at the office, even though running it out on the treadmill might feel like a good stress relief, it’s actually compounding the stress on your body. Listen to your body and move in a way that feels nurturing to you. Slow movements like heavy weight lifting or yoga can be more healing than metcons and endurance exercises.

3. Step up your self-care.

Make special time to take care of yourself during the early fall– time for rest and relaxation. Program this time into your daily schedule and treat it as sacred, “me time.”

4. Practice gratitude.

Focusing on what you’re grateful for almost always eases stress and puts you in a better mood. Keep a gratitude journal, or a gratitude list near your night stand and write down a few things each morning or evening.

5. Get support.

Sometimes you just can’t do it all by yourself. You need some support to ease your stress. Ask for help. Call a friend–talking to a friend is one of the best forms of stress relief, in my opinion. OR get the support of a professional, www.dublinholisticcentre.ie, to get you back on track with a healthy eating, exercise and self-care routine.

Step back from the stress now so that you can come out on top in October.

Eating a diet full of whole foods, like a Paleo diet, is one of the best ways to ease the physical stress on your body so that you can start to ease your mental stress.
